Planting & Transplanting in Chattanooga

Some plants are in the wrong place or struggling to thrive. When a plant is a good candidate to move, Green Grounds Solutions can relocate it to a more suitable spot. We also plant new trees, shrubs, perennials, and garden beds.

We consider the plant's size, soil, sunlight, drainage, and the best timing for the work. Proper planting and appropriate watering during establishment give plants a better chance to thrive.

Our Process

  1. Assess the site and plant. We consider the plant's condition, size, root system, soil, light, drainage, and timing.
  2. Prepare the planting site. We dig a hole suited to the plant and preserve as much of the root system as practical when transplanting.
  3. Plant and provide care guidance. We set the plant at the appropriate depth and explain how to water it as it establishes.

For trees, the root flare should remain visible at or slightly above the finished soil level. It should not be buried.

Watering After Planting or Transplanting

Newly planted and transplanted plants need appropriate watering as they establish. Watering needs vary with the plant, soil drainage, temperature, and rainfall—and can continue beyond the first few weeks. We'll provide guidance for the specific plant and conditions.

FAQs About Planting and Transplanting

  • What's the difference between planting and transplanting?

Most pine straw beds benefit from a fresh layer once or twice a year, though this varies based on how quickly it breaks down and how it looks. Because it decomposes slowly, many Chattanooga properties need fewer refreshes per year than they would with lighter wood mulch.

  • Can any established plant be transplanted?

Not always. The plant's size, condition, and root system affect whether it is a good candidate. We'll assess it before recommending a move.

  • When should a plant be transplanted?

Timing depends on the plant species, its condition, and the weather. We'll recommend a suitable time for the specific plant and site.

  • How much does planting or transplanting cost?

Cost depends on the plant, project size, access, and site conditions. We provide a free estimate before work begins.
